New claims for PIP have been replaced in Scotland by Adult Disability Payment with a similar points structure.

The latest figures from the Department for Work and Pensions show there are now more than 3.5 million adults across Great Britain claiming Personal Independence Payment , including nearly 173,000 living in Scotland. However, it's important to be aware Adult Disability Payment has replaced all new claims for PIP for people living north of the border.

The guidance on GOV.UK explains: “As the assessment principles consider the impact of a claimant’s condition on their ability to live independently and not the condition itself, claimants with the same condition may get different outcomes. The outcome is based on an independent assessment and all available evidence.”

The DWP PIP decision maker will determine whether your ability to carry out the component is limited, in which case you will be paid the standard rate, or if it is severely limited, in which case you will receive the enhanced rate. For those applying for ADP in Scotland, independent health professionals are not used, the entire application process is conducted in-house by Social Security Scotland.
