One gem stopped high Single-A Fort Wayne’s eight-game skid. Another began to build momentum. Left-hander Miguel Cienfuegos struck out five in a seven-inning shutout to start a doubleheader sweep at Lake County on Thursday. Cienfuegos struck out five while scattering two hits in a 3-0 win in seven innings in Game 1. Kai Murphy went 0-for-2 but drove in two runs. Nik McClaughry went 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and two runs scored.
Sugar Land 8, Chihuahuas 5: 2B Nate Mondou drove in four runs on three hits, including his third homer. LF Matthew Batten went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored. DH Donovan Solano went 1-for-4 with an RBI, a walk and a run scored. RHP Randy Vásquez allowed four runs in 3⅔ innings in the start. RHP Lake Bachar and RHP Alek Jacob each turned in a scoreless inning.
