Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Roman Wilson will not play Saturday against the Detroit Lions.
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Roman Wilson catches a pass during the NFL football team's training camp in Latrobe, Pa., Sunday, July 28, 2024. , the rookie revealed on Wednesday. Wilson suffered an ankle sprain on the first day of the team’s padded practices on July 30 and has not practiced since.for Week 1. While he would not say that outright, he said that he would be fine in the future.
“I am not giving away those secrets,” Wilson said. “It’s good so far. I’ll be back soon. It feels good. I’m pretty confident in it.”For now, the Steelers will start Calvin Austin III in the slot ahead of Wilson, who has missed most of training camp and now all of the preseason. Before his injury, Wilson seemed to be gaining momentum and inching up the depth chart. The Steelers hope to see Wilson continue progressing early in the season.
“It does suck not being able to play in preseason. That was something I was looking forward to. But you know, it could’ve been worse,” Wilson said. So, as of now, it does not appear that Wilson is in danger of missing Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons. Yet, with the injury forcing him to miss nearly a month of time, that will affect just how much he can take on early in the season.
