Asked what she’ll be wearing on 25 December, Adwoa replies: “Pyjamas. Any other answer is morally incomprehensible.”
Adwoa, who recently bought her first home, has taken a similarly considered approach to decking her halls, opting for biodegradable and eco-friendly decorations over tough-to-recycle tinsel. “I wanted to make sure any excess I bring into my home can be repurposed,” she says. “My compost bin enjoys Christmas, and I’ve bought small woollies and paper decorations from local artists. I like everything to be low-key and created, rather than generated.
When it comes to gifts, the model loves shopping “small and local”, she says. “Ever since buying my first home, Summerill & Bishop [home to some of London’s most] has become a favourite of mine. There is always something to find for a friend, family member or loved one. I also love Baddest Skateshop – and Rellik Vintage on Golborne Road has never let me down!” But the coming weeks won’t find Adwoa in a frenzy of last-minute gift buying .
For Adwoa, the best thing about Christmas is time with family – the theme of all of her favourite festive memories. “I will never not remember being sat on the top of the stairs with my younger sister, praying the minutes away until we could unwrap presents,” she says now. “It’s that intense, childlike excitement that rattles every limb, and I like to think I have carried that through to my adulthood. Most of my treasured memories are with my sister next to me.
Aboah family tradition dictates that on Christmas night, “I badger my entire family to watch a festive film at 9.30pm, and by 9.36pm the Quality Street box is all over the floor, and I am out for the count,” says Adwoa. As for where we’ll find her at 3pm on Boxing Day: “The answer will always be snort-laughing with my family while Dad blasts awful Christmas songs. Always.”
