A woman and a 15-year-old boy were the only two occupants in a plane that crashed off the shore near Fremantle in Western Australia.

WA Police were alerted to a plane crash off Leighton Beach in North Fremantle, near Perth, at about 5.10pm on Thursday.

The aircraft, believed to be a Cessna 0-1G ‘Bird Dog’, fell about 30 to 50 metres away from the shore.The two occupants in the plane were the pilot, a 45-year-old woman, and one passenger, a 15-year-old boy.The woman and boy were, however, able to exit the aircraft and swim to shore.
