'The next minute they started calling seat numbers up to the front. We were called up row by row, starting at the back of the plane, to be asked if we'd seen anything. They showed us a picture of the package that looked like a football wrapped in papier-mâché.'
Passengers on a flight from Orlando to Manchester have said they were searched after authorities swarmed the plane following claims a suspicious package was on board.
Since the incident, Virgin Atlantic have said they followed protocol, with "routine searches" carried out. They say staff alerted authorities and they were ready to meet the plane moments after landing. An inspection both before and after landing revealed there was no threat, it is believed. One couple who wished to be kept anonymous, told the MEN: "As we set off, about five minutes in, my partner noticed a member of the cabin crew walking down the aisle with a box.
"The next minute they started calling seat numbers up to the front. We were called up row by row, starting at the back of the plane, to be asked if we'd seen anything. They showed us a picture of the package that looked like a football wrapped in papier-mâché. We'd had no sleep and we were in despair with it all.
"As per protocol the authorities greeted the aircraft landing and performed routine searches. All customers disembarked safely and we’d like to thank them for their patience and understanding. We apologise for any delays with disembarking and baggage."
