Planet Fitness first did this promotion in 2019. The chain suspended it during the pandemic, but has brought it back annually since 2022. Jamie Medeiros, chief brand officer for the company, told CNBC Make It that the decision to bring it back for a fourth summer was"a no brainer." Planet Fitness estimates the program delivered roughly $200 million worth of value to high schoolers in its first three summers, with more than 7 million teens taking advantage since it was introduced in 2019.
