It's set to cause absolute havoc on the roads M62

West Yorkshire Police have confirmed the force is aware of "proposed national protests on the UK motorway network" and says "appropriate plans" are in place. Drivers could take to stretches of the M62 in West Yorkshire from 6am, although Yorkshire Live understands some organisers have already pulled out of the plans.

A Facebook group, created by Carsuniteuk, says a protest is planned at Ferrybridge services near Pontefract. Only 36 people have confirmed they will be attending, while 115 more have registered their interest.Writing on the page, organisers said: "We will be meeting at Ferrybridge services at 6am then we will set off and block the motorway in a peaceful protest. All information will be given out on the day.

It comes as the cost of fuel continues to rise across the country. Earlier this week, petrol reached a record high of 191.2p per litre. In response to the possible M62 protest, a spokesperson for WYP said: "West Yorkshire Police is aware of proposed national protests on the UK motorway network on 4 July.

"Deliberate obstruction of the roads network will inconvenience huge numbers of people, draw police resources away from other important work and potentially delay the response times of all emergency services. We acknowledge the importance of lawful protests but will deal swiftly with any criminal offences."

Similar 'rolling block' protests look set to take place across the country on Monday. "As many people as possible" have been urged to join a rolling block on the M180 near Doncaster from 6am on July 4. Further south, fuel protesters are expected to cause disruption on parts of the M5 from around 8.30am.
