Plans were put forward to move the school in 2020
Plans for the relocation of Lady Bay Primary School appear to have been delayed after the county council requested more time to look into its options. Plans were put forward by Nottinghamshire County Council in 2020 to look into the possibility of building a new primary school elsewhere, and relocating the Lady Bay school due to a growing demand for places.
On October 31 the council submitted plans asking to extend the planning permission for mobile classrooms at the school in Trent Boulevard by five years. It said this would allow further time for feasibility works to be completed ahead of a decision on the relocation. The school has a net capacity of 405 pupils but currently has 418 enrolled. Planning documents say pupil place projections show that demand for places at the school will "consistently be greater than its capacity over the next five years".
Lady Bay Primary School faces challenges regarding permanent extensions due to its listed status. Due to a historical increase in demand for places in the area, a double mobile was installed on the school playground in 2007. The temporary building accommodates 60 children and four adults, documents say. A county council spokesman said: “We are seeking an extension of the current planning permission as the temporary classrooms are in good repair and necessary for the provision of school places within the school over the next time period covered by our projections.”
