Contain-It lodges application for planning permission for expansion of its Fulbar Road site.

Contain-It has lodged an application for planning permission for the expansion of its Fulbar Road site into a northern section of land off Ferguslie Walk.

If given the go ahead by the local authority, the project will boost the company's capacity at the location in response to demand. A planning statement, prepared by agent WD Harley, shed light on the reasons for submitting the change of use application to the council. It explained: "This proposal seeks planning consent for the installation of 49 new single-storey storage containers within an established storage container site.

"The additional containers are to be located in the northern section of the site, positioned adjacent to the existing supermarket, and arranged as a logical extension of the current layout. "The proposed units will be situated behind the existing gabion basket screening along the boundary with the supermarket and will not extend beyond this established screening, ensuring the development is visually well contained and compatible with its immediate context.

"No new buildings are proposed and the works are limited in nature, comprising prefabricated containers on existing/engineered hardstanding with continued use of established site access and circulation. " The surrounding area is mixed in character with commercial and retail premises found in close proximity as well as pockets of housing.

The statement added: "The site benefits from an existing approval for caravan parking, however, the proposed storage containers represent a more orderly and visually cohesive form of development, responding to the established character of the site and offering an improved aesthetic outcome when viewed from adjoining land.

"Overall, the proposal will increase on-site storage capacity in response to demand while maintaining appropriate screening, safeguarding neighbouring amenity and ensuring the site remains secure, functional and well managed. " The local authority has notified Aldi, which neighbours the site, about the plans and invited the supermarket to comment if it wishes to do so. A decision on the application, which is expected to be made by planning officers, will be confirmed at a later date.
