Council bosses have insisted they will work hard “to deliver on the aspirations” of Highland Perthshire after a failed bid to create Tay Forest National Park.
The proposed park would have sat between the existing Cairngorms National Park and the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. Out of 352 respondents, 57 per cent were in favour and 33 per cent were opposed. The largest level of opposition came from land managers, with 78 per cent disagreeing. “ highlighted the strength of the area’s natural heritage and that 19 per cent is already covered by national conservation designations.
In February around 60 protesters from estates gathered outside Perth and Kinross Council headquarters to voice their opposition to the proposed National Park and Perthshire Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser said this week: “I welcome the fact that it won’t now be proceeding - there was a lot of local opposition, especially from the farming community.
