The motoring champions would insist the money is targeted at the lower earners. It comes just days after Transport Secretary Grant Shapps revealed plans to bring forward a ban on petrol and diesel cars to 2035. “Half the money, coming from bus lane fines, is ready and waiting in council coffers. Rather than waiting two years for clean air restrictions to come into force, councils can make a start virtually tomorrow.
