Nickel 28's Ramu mine has suspended operations
Canada-headquartered Nickel 28 alerted the market on October 10 that its Ramu mine was suspended immediately following the quake, which occurred on October 7, so that any related issues or damage could be assessed. "No casualties or serious injuries have been reported, all operations have maintained integrity throughout the incident, and there is no known impact to the mining operations," the company said.
"Once a full integrity inspection has been completed and full system operations can be reasonably assured, the Ramu Mine intends to re-start operations," it said. Spokespeople from Newcrest and K92 Mining separately confirmed to Mining Journal that there had been no effects on their operations. Harmony Gold Mining and St Barbara were not available for immediate comment regarding their operations in the region. However, neither company have alerted the markets to any issues.
