Police and paramedics called amid reports of man lying in the street and assault in Withington
Police swarmed a street in south Manchester amid reports of an assault on Wednesday night . Officers and paramedics attended the scene on Parsonage Road, in Withington.
Witnesses told the M.E.N that they heard 'a group of men shouting' from around 9.30pm, minutes before the emergency crews arrived. A casualty was also reportedly lying on the pavement before being taken away in an ambulance from the scene. A cordon was erected around parked cars on Parsonage Road, beside the Coffee Lab cafe at the junction with Wilmslow Road. There are unconfirmed reports of an assault, with items of clothing also seen on the ground within the police tape.A resident said: "I told police we heard a large group of men shouting which went on for about 15 minutes. My neighbours said they saw people kicking someone on the floor. It was a very large group though, lots of different voices.
"I heard a woman shouting saying that somebody was bleeding. There’s definitely a problem in this area though, it’s clear as day. It is starting to feel really unsafe now. We’re definitely moving out as soon as our tenancy ends." Another resident of Parsonage Road also confirmed they heard 'lots of screaming and shouting' before police arrived. The ambulance left shortly after 10pm, with officers remaining at the scene.Read more of today's top stories here
