Former university lecturer Vera Croghan died in a fire set by her grandson Chanatorn Croghan in December 2020.
Police had been called to concerns about the behaviour of a schizophrenic student before he started the fire which killed his grandmother, an inquest has heard.
Reopening the inquest into Ms Croghan’s death at Norfolk Coroners’ Court, area coroner Yvonne Blake read a family statement describing the long-serving University of East Anglia lecturer, author and mother-of-four as a “fearless adventurer”, an “intellectual force” and a “career woman before her time”.Teenager pleads guilty to killing his grandmother in fire
The inquest heard that Marco was detained by police under the Mental Health Act in June 2020 and treated as an inpatient at Southern Hill Hospital in north Norfolk.
