A French police officer was injured on Saturday (August 24) when a blazing car exploded in the car park of a synagogue in the coastal town of La Grande-Motte, local media reported, and police said they were treating the incident as attempted arson.

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin announced on X: 'The alleged perpetrator of the arson attack on the synagogue has been arrested. He said a gas cylinder was detonated 'in front of the synagogue of La Grande-Motte at the expected time of arrival of worshippers'.
