There were a number of fires on the street after a large group gathered in Walton
Police closed off Walton's County Road after several incidents of disorder close to a mosque. The scenes in north Liverpool came after a day of disorder throughout the city centre, beginning close to the Pier Head and spilling over into the city's main shopping street. Police earlier confirmed six arrests were made after disorder followed a protest on the waterfront which led to violent scenes on the Strand with several officers being injured.
The road was comparatively quiet at the planned time of the gathering but more people congregated and there were clashes with police and bottles and bricks thrown. A number of skips and bins were reported to have been set alight in the street. Police, including some from North Wales, formed blockades at either end of the road in a bid to disperse those causing disorder. Fire engines were in attendance at the scene, with some people attempting to block them as they came through.
