Police in Northern Ireland are continuing their search for a man dressed in a yellow outfit who has sparked widespread attention and concern online. The individual, dubbed the ' yellow man ,' was first spotted on December 27th in Kilrea, by Gerard McFerran who captured footage of the encounter and shared it on social media. McFerran questioned the man about his attire, which consisted of a long yellow coat, yellow trousers and boots, a white mask, and a black wig.
While initial online reports suggested the 'yellow man' might be armed, McFerran stated that he did not believe the man posed a threat.Following the initial sighting, police increased patrols in the Kilrea, Rasharkin, and Dunloy areas, and there have been additional reports of the man being seen in Portglenone. Authorities have interviewed several witnesses regarding these sightings but have yet to locate the individual. The PSNI has urged the public to refrain from spreading unsubstantiated information on social media, warning that the speculation has amplified fears, particularly among younger children. A PSNI spokesperson stated, 'Following reports of the so-called ‘yellow man’ in areas across Causeway Coast and Glens, local police have carried out many proactive patrols and have spoken to a number of witnesses however to date, the individual described has not been located. 'We are aware that the ‘yellow man’ has gained much traction on social media, giving rise to further claimed sightings online - which have not been reported to police. 'Whilst we understand that there is concern in the community, ongoing social media speculation and commentary, and the re-sharing of unsubstantiated information, is not helpful and indeed can cause increased fear, particularly amongst our younger school-aged populations. 'Before you post online, please consider the consequences your actions may have - no one wants to inadvertently generate unnecessary fear in our community. 'You will continue to see our officers on patrol to provide reassurance that we are committed to doing everything we can to make our community feel safe and be safe. 'If you have any concerns around behaviour that you consider suspicious, please report to local officers on 101, or online at.
