What is it with football fans punching horses?
This is the moment that a spectator appears to take a swing at a police horse moments before being arrested.
The man allegedly hit the horse during a clash between Southampton and Portsmouth fans last night near Fratton Park football stadium. He was chased down the street by the horse before he turned around and appeared to take a swing that landed on the horse’s nose. The officer on the horse then chased him down the street before he was pinned to the floor and held by a number of officers.
Trouble broke out ahead of the game with police surrounding fans from both sides to guide them into the ground. They were attending a match in the third round of the Carabao Cup which Southampton won, 4-0. Anticipating trouble, the local Hampshire Constabulary drafted in officers from Kent and Thames Valley ahead of the match. Last time the two teams met in 2012 five fans were arrested and six were ejected from the stadium.
