Austin police have identified the victim shot and killed in the parking lot of a park in east Austin Wednesday night.
It happened on April 17 at around 9:01 p.m. in the parking lot of Bartholomew District Park at 1800 East 51st Street.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting near the basketball courts and located Tayjay Stephens, 33, inside a vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. CPR was given to Stephens while he was being transported to a local hospital, but eventually succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 9:32 p.m.
Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses.Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Austin Police Department at 512-974-TIPS or submit an anonymous tip through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program online or by calling 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for any information that leads to an arrest.
