There were a number of ‘incidents of disorder’ last night in Royton, Oldham, police said
Stop-and-search powers have been stepped up in an area of Oldham after reports of a ‘group of men with weapons’ and an incident that has left a man with life changing injuries.
The order allows police to stop and search anyone they have reason to believe is conducting criminal activities and carrying offensive weapons, or to direct them to remove face coverings. It is in place from 8pm tonight until 4am tomorrow.Earlier today, police arrested two boys on suspicion of robbery and possession of an offensive weapon following an attack in Rochdale Road, Royton.
“Please be assured that we are working round the clock to ensure the safety of the local community and to do this we have increased visible officers across the district to provide added reassurance to the public. If you have any concerns, or would like to share some information with them, please do not hesitate to speak to them; they are there to help you.
“We will continue to have a presence in the area beyond the conclusion of the additional powers and I would like to thank the public for their support. Please continue coming forwards with information that will allow us to take action to keep our streets safe.
