With shoppers clamouring for the best deals ahead of Christmas, cyber-criminals have a golden opportunity to take advantage of the sales
While there are many deals on Black Friday which might seem too good be true, police warned shoppers ahead of the sales that some of them just might be. It's the time to get all the best deals both online and on the high street, but shoppers should also take care that the deals they get are legitimate.
One common scam according to GMP is when a scammer selling an item on Facebook or Instagram will ask for payment for an item upfront. The them then either never arrives, or the customer receives an empty box. It can be difficult to tell from pictures online. However, if the price looks too good to be true, it probably is.
Detective Sergeant Stacey Shannon of GMP’s Economic Crime Unit, said, “We understand that because of the rising cost of living, people are looking to try and get the most from their money and save where they can and steal a deal this Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
