Extra police powers have been enacted in Woodchurch following reports of anti-social behaviour linked to a funeral. The dispersal order aims to curb disruptive conduct and ensure public safety.

Police have been given extra powers after reports of anti-social behavior associated with a funeral that took place today. A dispersal order is in place in Woodchurch from 3.45pm on Tuesday, December 17 and will remain active for a period of 24 hours. The measure is in response to reports of anti-social behavior associated with a funeral that took place today, according to police.

Spencer Crofts, 17, from the Woodchurch estate in Wirral , died in a crash between a scrambler bike and an electric bike on November 30. A 21-year-old man from Birkenhead was arrested for three breaches of a Criminal Behaviour Order and a 34-year-old woman from Woodchurch was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly. They have been taken into custody for questioning. Two Land Rovers were seized and their drivers issued with Traffic Offence Reports. An off-road motorcycle and a quad bike were seized. The dispersal zone has been brought in under Section 34/35 of the Anti-Social Behaviour & Policing Act 2014, which gives police officers the powers to direct people engaging in anti-social behavior or are likely to become involved in such incidents and not return for up to 48 hours. Officers also have the power to seize items used for anti-social behaviour. Should a person who has previously been directed to leave but returns to the area, then an offence would be committed, and they may be arrested. Superintendent Karl Baldwin said: “We understand the important context of any funeral in our community, and that people will want to mark the passing of people in their own ways. A young man lost his life in tragic circumstances, and we know the shock and grief his family and friends must feel. 'Whilst we will always take a proportionate and sensitive approach to how we police the impact of such events, we will not tolerate reckless and dangerous behaviour, especially when that behaviour impacts others going about their daily busines
