A woman was shot dead in her car in front of two children before another man was injured when he came to her aid, police say. The 34-year-old woman arrived at a Robb Place address in South Mackay, Queensland about 4.30pm on Wednesday. It is here police allege she was approached by a 31-year-old male who fired into the car, killing her. Two young teenagers fled the vehicle, running to a nearby home.
A police manhunt was triggered and the 31-year-old suspect was arrested outside a fast food restaurant along Bruce Hwy in Mackay about 7.45pm. Paine said there was nothing to indicate at this stage that the parties are known to each other although it is understood they “reside in fairly close proximity”. “I don’t have any details at this stage in relation to any motive or reasons behind what’s occurred,” Paine said. Police have not indicated what type of gun was used.
