A man was killed Wednesday night after police said two cars collided in East Oakland after both failed to stop at a stop sign.

OAKLAND — An 18-year-old man died Wednesday night after the speeding car he was in was broadsided by another vehicle in East Oakland, authorities said.The driver of the other vehicle fled the scene on foot as did another occupant of the car the man who died was in, police said.

The collision happened about 10:35 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of 38th Avenue and Carrington Street. Police said as the Honda Fit accelerated through the intersection it was broadsided by an Acura TL that was traveling westbound on Carrington Street that also failed to stop for the stop sign.Witnesses told police that the man who later died was able to get out of the vehicle and began gathering items from inside the vehicle before running to the curb where he collapsed and was later pronounced dead. Police have not said what the items were.
