Cops who agree to work in select remote communities are set to be rewarded with up to $36,000 in payments as areas in the bush struggle to attract police officers.

Police Minister Paul Toole announced on Friday cops who relocate to select remote communities in the state will be rewarded with up to $36,000 in payments.

Cops who agree to transfer to 55 communities including Broken Hill, Coonamble, Hay, Walgett, Wee Waa and Wentworth will be eligible for the scheme. "It's an investment in the police who work across large areas in some of the most remote parts of the state to keep their communities safe." Police who have already served in remote areas for five years will be given a one-off payment of $4,300.
