Police officer warned he could face jail after admitting having sexual relationship with victim of crime
A police officer was warned he could face jail after admitting having an four-month sexual relationship with a victim of crime. PC Darren Coathup, 39, embarked on a 'personal and sexual' relationship with the woman after she contacted Lancashire Police.
Judge Alan Conrad KC warned Coathup not to read anything into the fact that he was granting him unconditional bail. "You may well face a custodial sentence," the judge said during a hearing at Manchester Crown Court. Coathup, from Chorley, Lancashire, appeared in court to plead guilty to two counts of misconduct in a public office. He admitted being involved in a 'personal and sexual' relationship with one woman between April and August last year, and contacting a second woman for 'sexual purposes' between July 2020 and February last year.
After the hearing, a spokesman for Lancashire Police said the force are aware of Coathup's guilty pleas.
