Although officers are prohibited from striking by law, Scottish Police Federation members have withdrawn “all goodwill” over the dispute, which is still unresolved.
Holyrood’s opposition parties described the fall in officer numbers as “alarming”, accusing ministers of creating a crisis in policing. Police Scotland recently launched a recruitment campaign, with Chief Constable Sir Iain Livingstone saying he wants to “encourage everybody to consider a career in policing”.
