The female officer sustained serious injuries during the 'truly shocking' event at a retail park in Cheadle on Saturday night and was transported to the hospital, according to Greater Manchester Police.
The force released a statement explaining that they received a report of individuals acting suspiciously inside a vehicle in the car park. As a responding police officer approached the vehicle, she reported that the vehicle accelerated toward her, striking her. The officer was subsequently taken to the hospital for medical treatment. Chief Inspector John Picton commented on the incident, stating, 'This incident is truly shocking, and it demonstrates how quickly situations that our frontline officers attend can escalate.' There is absolutely no justification for this incident to have unfolded in this manner. Our officers diligently work each day to provide an exceptional service to the communities they serve, achieving remarkable results in situations that are often demanding. Assaults on our officers are completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. In this case, the officer sustained serious injuries. Our investigation is ongoing, and the officer is receiving comprehensive support from all of us at the Stockport district. She is making a good recovery
