Police responded to multiple reports of an active shooter at Hurricane High School that were later determined to be a hoax.
by Victoria Hill, KUTVFILE - Hurricane High School in Hurricane, Utah. MORE:Hurricane officers said two people called alleging to be in the high school — one in the library, one in the auditorium — “stating they could hear gunshots."
Steve Dunham with the Washington County School District stated they were on spring break, but 23 students and 6 staff members were in the building at the time of the incident.Law enforcement completed a sweep of the school but said they didn’t locate anyone related to the call. SWAT members were called as a precaution to conduct a secondary search.
Hurricane police said there was “no reason for to believe there is danger to the public at this time."As of Monday afternoon, they are continuing to investigate the phone calls made to dispatch. In Summit County, South Summit High School campus was placed on SECURE protocol on Monday "due to law enforcement activity outside of the building." No injuries were reported in that incident, and students there were also on spring break.
