Trading standards are now investigating
Police stopped a 'suspicious' vehicle and found almost 20,000 cigarettes stashed inside. The 990 packets of Lambert & Butler cigs have been seized following the discovery in Bury town centre on Saturday afternoon.
Three PCs pulled over the vehicle in Bury town centre as part of an ongoing operation to crackdown on anti-social behaviour in the area.READ MORE: Police shut road after crash outside pub with air ambulance at the scene In a post on Facebook GMP Bury said: "PCs Layton, Junaid and Myers have been out and about the town centre this afternoon; not long after being out they came across a suspicious vehicle. After a search of the vehicle the officers discovered two large boxes containing 990 packets of duty free Lambert and Butler cigarettes, the approximate value of these cigarettes is £13,000!
The 'owner' of these cigarettes has been identified and will be dealt with in due course in conjunction with Bury Council 's trading standards team! "Smoking has detrimental effects on people of all ages, the sale of illegal tobacco and vaping products is also extremely harmful. You don't know what ingredients are in these which puts you at further risk of harm!"
