23 small plants and 16 baby plants were found at the man's home in Mansfield
A drunk man was taken home by police officers only for them to find cannabis plants growing at the property. Officers were called to the side of the road in Annesley just after midnight on Sunday, August 20.
A man was lying in the street and police decided to take him home. When they arrived at his home in Mansfield, officers smelt cannabis. A pantry room was slightly ajar with a bright light shining inside. Officers opened the door and found 22 small cannabis plants. They then searched the house and found a second room containing 16 baby plants, some of which had died. All the plants were seized.Police said a man in his 50s will attend an interview "in due course". Neighbourhood Inspector Kylie Davies said: “Officers were concerned for the man’s safety and decided to escort him home.
“This was good work by officers who followed their noses and have taken a number of plants out of circulation. We take drug supply extremely seriously as it is linked to many other crimes including anti-social behaviour and violence.”
