‘We must and we will stamp out this menace.'

Stamping out the ‘menace of knife crime’ has been made a government priority after the Chancellor committed an additional £100,000,000.

Announcing the funding package to the House of Commons, he said: ‘The recent surge in violence represents a tragedy for scores of families of the victims.‘We must and we will stamp out this menace. Knife crime has dominated the headlines this month and in 2019 there have been more than 40 fatal stabbings.

Mr Hammond did not say where the money would come from but reports suggests 80% will come from the Treasury with the remaining 20% from the Home Office.
