A cordon was set up for several hours
A number of roads which were closed over reports of a 'suspicious package' inside a residential property in Carrington have reopened. on Friday and Mansfield Road was shut in both directions. A number of properties in the vicinity were also evacuated.
More than a dozen vehicles were parked on the outskirts of the cordon, which included Carrington's Lidl supermarket, whilst people staying at the nearby Mercure Hotel were told they were not able to go inside. Nottinghamshire Police were first called to the scene at around 1pm on Friday but, in a update late that evening, the force confirmed no suspicious package had been found.
Shoppers in the area described the moment the bomb squad arrived on Mansfield Road as being "hectic". People were eventually able to return to their homes on Friday and roads were reopened, with Mansfield Road having been closed from the Goose Fair roundabout to Ebers Road. Chief Inspector Styles-Jones added: "We would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding, as well as all the officers and supporting emergency services involved as part of our response to this incident."
