Police have issued a stern warning after several instances of youngsters being seen playing on frozen water in different locations across Greater Manchester. Pictures shared on social media showed groups of teenagers on frozen canals and lakes, prompting concerns about their safety. Officers emphasized the dangers of frozen water, stressing that even if it looks thick, it can become thin very quickly and crack, leading to serious accidents.

Greater Manchester Police said they received a further report of youths on frozen water at Dover Lock at 1pm today . "Even if the ice appears thick from the bank, it becomes thinner very quickly and can crack. Our message is simple – stay safe, stay off the ice." "Anything can happen. We have some cases where young people have drowned so I would encourage young people not to put themselves at risk."
