Police watchdog launches probe after man died in car crash after police chase

A 27-year-old man was killed in a horror M9 road smash at the weekend following a police chase.

Declan Connell, from Falkirk , was pronounced dead at the scene after the crash on Sunday morning.A white Vauxhall Corsa, travelling southbound on the M9 between junctions 8 and 9, came off the road and landed down an embankment.Emergency services attended and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed while officers carried out investigation work and partially re-opened around 10.30pm.The circumstances surrounding the collision have been referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner – Scotland’s police watchdog.
