Conservatives remain ruling group at borough

Ribble Valley Council's political landscape has been shaken-up with two Labour councillors becoming independents and, separately, a former independent joining the Conservatives.

Labour enjoyed significant success in the 2023 local council elections. But the Conservatives remain the ruling group with support from some others. However, the council still has range of parties and groups. "At a national level, the loss of the winter fuel allowance, the tax decision on farmers and more tax affecting business employment is particularly disappointing for me. In particular, our district is highly dependent on the success of the farming industry and this decision can only be bad for many farmers, which will along with more planning changes expedite more land sale and provide less food security.

"Over the last few months I’ve felt much more aligned to the Conservative Party arguments, principally in protecting local democracy, local jobs and our countryside. I believe that joining the Conservative Party will mean I can help to support Ribble Valley and my ward in a more honest and effective way.
