Right-wing Tory MP Natalie Elphicke has defected to Labour, hitting out at the 'broken promises of Rishi Sunak's tired and chaotic government'. The move has raised eyebrows across Westminster given some of her previous comments.
There has been a variety of reaction to Natalie Elphicke's defection to the Labour Party on both sides of the political spectrum.Sitting government minister Steve Baker tweeted that he has been 'searching in vain for a Conservative MP who thinks themselves to the right of Natalie Elphicke'.He said another MP quipped: 'I didn't realise there was any room to her right.
'On the Labour side, reactions have been somewhat more muted - although we understand that there is some discontent in the parliamentary party.Florence Eshalomi, MP for Vauxhall, tweeted eyes and confused face emojis, along with a GIF of legendary football manager Jose Mourinho's famous quote: 'I prefer not to speak. If I speak I am in big trouble.
