Labour are launching their by-election campaign in Tamworth today, which is being held on 19 October after the resignation of Chris Pincher. Sir Keir Starmer is also travelling up to Rutherglen and Hamilton West for a Scottish Labour rally ahead of yet another by-election next week.
Imprisonment for Public Protection were introduced in the Criminal Justice Act of 2003 and came into effect in England and Wales two years later.
One of the main criticisms levied at the IPP sentence was that it was applied too broadly and was poorly targeted. It explained:"Unless the court found it unreasonable to do so, where an offender was convicted of one of the serious offences and they had a previous conviction from one of the list of 153 specified offences, they had to consider the offender to be dangerous and impose an IPP sentence."
It's a busy day ahead for members of the Labour Party - with a campaign launch in Tamworth and the trail in full swing in Rutherglen and Hamilton West.
