'When the PM took office 9 months ago, NHS waiting lists had 7.2million people on it. What's the number today?' Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer asks Rishi Sunak about healthcare pressures, to which he says strike action has been a disruption. 📺 Sky 501

Starmer's child benefit stance 'sending shivers down Labour front bench'

Sir Keir Starmer says he still hasn't heard a word on how the government will pay for its NHS staffing plan. It's a simple first question from the Labour leader, highlighting the fact that waiting lists for treatment stood at 7.2 million when the PM took office, and asking what the number it today. Mr Sunak attempts to turn the tables again by echoing Sir Keir's line back at him and arguing that he hadn't had an answer to his question about Labour's position on the doctors' strikes.

Sir Keir says:"I don't know whether the prime minister found time to visit Hillingdon Hospital during the recent by-elections where the wards have had to close, staff are working in appalling conditions, and patient safety is at risk.

In response, Rishi Sunak says his plan is"fully funded" and was"welcomed" by 43 different NHS stakeholders. He says that when Rishi Sunak took office, the NHS waiting list had 7.2 million people on it, and asks how many are on it today. After some cheers and jeers and a brief intervention from the Speaker to calm things down, Sir Keir replies:"I'm sure the whole House is pleased that he [Sunak] has graced us with his presence today. But we don't get any more answers when he's here than when he's not."He asks why after nine months"his government is failing more patients than ever before".

One year later, there is still no strategy for this, he says - and he calls on the prime minister to look into it.
