Poole's key Wimborne Road route is temporarily closed over the next three days.
Heavy congestion was expected in parts of Poole after Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council closed Wimborne Road at 07:00 BST on Tuesday.
The road will be shut between Haynes Avenue and Heckford Road from 07:00 until 18:00 for the next three days. The council said signposted diversions were in place and warned drivers to allow extra time for their journeys or plan alternative routes.24-25 October - Haynes Avenue to just south of Heckford Road27 October - Wimborne Road at its with junction with Tatnam Road
Work to install new cycle lanes on both sides of Wimborne Road between Heckford Road and New Inn junction is scheduled to start in November.
