Pope Francis thanks hero Notre Dame firefighters who risked their lives
THE Pope today praised firefighters who risked their lives battling the inferno at Notre Dame - and thanked them on behalf of the entire Catholic church.
Addressing his Wednesday general audience in St Peter's Square, he said: "The gratitude of the whole Church goes to all those who did everything they could, even risking their lives, to save the Basilica," he said during the weekly general audience in Saint Peter's Square.which gutted the cathedral, destroying its roof and causing the spire to collapse.
And President Emmanuel Macron has vowed to rebuild fire-ravaged Notre Dame "even more beautifully" in just five years.
