Reverend Neil Galbraith is retiring from Cathcart Old Parish on February 3
Reverend Neil Galbraith, who is retiring fromOld Parish on February 3 after more than a quarter of a century, thanked the congregation for their “exceptional” generosity.
“We travelled a long road together, but we achieved some real miracles along that road,” he said in a Facebook post. “We had a tractor inside the church, we dropped poppies from the roof, we had royalty and ambassadors with us, and many times political figures. We shared worship with other faiths, had a police horse named after the congregation, we had Run Rig playing in the Kirk, and even took two wedding services’ during Sunday morning worship.
Reverend Galbraith, who joined Cathcart Old in 1996 and founded the charity, Glasgow the Caring City, thanked the church followers for their “friendship, encouragement and love” and added, paraphrasing JM Barrie's Peter Pan: “I leave the final words to James T Kirk of the Starship Enterprise. ‘Take the second star to the left and go on to morning’. In other words, go forward - your journey is far from finished.
