Iain Weir appeared before The General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) accused of entering into a relationship with Pupil A while employed as a physics teacher between August 1994 and June 1995.
A teacher who denied having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old female pupil at Port Glasgow High School almost 30 years ago has been struck off.
Weir was suspended from his job in 2017 and charged but later acquitted in November that year, following a trial in which his lawyer made a successful no case to answer submission. The panel heard from both Weir's former colleagues, the girl's mum and friends. The married teacher was also found to have called her home when he knew her parents would be out. He repeatedly gave the girl lifts in his car, despite being warned not to do so by another teacher and by the girl's parents who twice called him to their house to ask him to leave the teen alone.
