The Post Office is facing further job losses as part of a major transformation plan aimed at increasing payments for sub-postmasters. The changes come after the Horizon IT scandal, which wrongly prosecuted hundreds of sub-postmasters for theft and fraud.

The Post Office is implementing plans for significant job reductions as part of a transformation strategy aimed at enhancing payments for thousands of sub-postmasters. Sky News has learned that the state-owned company was in the process of notifying approximately 100 senior managers on Wednesday that their positions would be impacted by the proposed changes. While some individuals anticipate losing their jobs entirely, the precise number remains uncertain.

The Post Office's chairman, Nigel Railton, outlined this restructuring initiative last November, stating his ambition to increase sub-postmaster remuneration by £250 million annually. 'The Post Office has a 360-year history of public service, and today we aim to secure that service for the future by learning from past mistakes and progressing for the benefit of all postmasters,' Mr. Railton declared. 'We can, and will, restore pride in working for a business with a legacy of service, rather than one of scandal.'The Post Office has been embroiled in crisis since the extent of the Horizon IT scandal came to light, resulting in hundreds of sub-postmasters being wrongly prosecuted for theft and fraud. Brought to wider public attention by the ITV drama 'Mr Bates vs The Post Office,' this situation has been deemed Britain's biggest miscarriage of justice. Many of those affected experienced health issues, marital breakdowns, or even death before being exonerated. Former chief executive Paula Vennells, who steadfastly maintained for years that the Horizon system was reliable, had her damehood effectively revoked last year in disgrace. The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) has commissioned BCG, a management consultancy, to explore options for mutualising the Post Office, with further details anticipated to emerge this year. A Post Office spokesperson declined to comment on Wednesday morning.
