The Post Office has abandoned its replacement for the scandal-tainted Horizon IT system in the face of escalating costs and setbacks. The New Branch IT system (NBIT) faced severe delays and issues, leading to a decision to extend the current Horizon system with Fujitsu until March 2026.
The Post Office is scrapping its replacement for the scandal-hit Horizon IT system due to cost overruns and setbacks, leading to costs skyrocketing to around £2 billion. The New Branch IT system ( NBIT ), initially set to be completed by March 2024 for £200 million over three years, faced significant delays and development issues. The Government , the sole stakeholder, refused to fund NBIT 's £1 million per week running costs.
