U.S. Sens. Laphonza Butler and Alex Padilla asked the Postmaster General to produce a plan to restore service in Niland and Bolinas by Friday.

Those closures have cut off daily access to the mail for hundreds of residents in Niland in the Imperial Valley and Bolinas in Northern California, forcing some people to travel long distances to obtain critical medications and important documents. “It’s unacceptable that for more than two years, Niland and the surrounding communities have gone without reliable postal services,” Sen. Padilla told KPBS in a statement. “I have called on U.S. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy and will continue to urge the USPS to address this issue promptly and to find a permanent solution.”that residents of Niland and several surrounding communities have been cut off from daily access to the mail since the post office burned down in February 2022.
