Callander will be left without any Post Office from January as the postmaster there gets set to retire.
In an update this week, the Post Office said that “regrettably” the branch will close, adding: “As you may be aware, this branch has been operated on our behalf by a temporary agent and is no longer able to provide a service at the premises.
The Post Office is currently run by Calum Menzies, who took over the operation of the outlet from his father, Hamish – who was the UK’s longest serving Post Office worker until his death in early 2020.Callum took the role on and in 2021 he earned himself Callander’s Outstanding Citizen award. He was presented with the gong for his “exceptional kindness and help in the community”.
Callander Community Council and Callander Community Development Trust are now working together to find a solution and a working group has already set up a number of meetings, including with the Post Office, to understand the options for communities.
