Graham Potter believes fatigue and a tough schedule are partly to blame for Chelsea’s poor run of form following their 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United on Saturday.

The result at St James’ Park means Chelsea have now registered three straight defeats in all competitions for the first time since 2002.

‘It’s as simple as that but I have to look at why that is and the situation that we’ve had to deal with. It hasn’t been straightforward at all.‘We’ve had a lot of games, a few injuries to key players, destabilised us, today again you see they’re missing. Just had a period that’s been incredibly challenging.

Potter also believes Chelsea’s growing injury list and intense schedule has contributed to their struggles.
