Thousands of properties in Manchester city centre were left without power on Wednesday night due to an unexpected incident with underground cables. This is the second outage in the Deansgate area within a few weeks, causing frustration for residents and raising concerns about the reliability of the electricity supply.

Another power cut left thousands without electricity in Manchester city centre on Wednesday night . Electricity North West have now issued a statement on what caused the issues in the Deansgate area.

Councillor Pat Karney and city centre spokesperson, said the lights went out in his property at around 7pm. "Its the third time in three weeks. It's like living in the outback rather than the dead centre of a city," he said. It came weeks after another power cut, also in the Deansgate area, affected around 1,800 properties. Homes were left without power at around 8.20pm on January 9, again due to a fault with an underground electricity cable.

However, after further inspection on Wednesday, engineers then discovered further damage to two underground electricity cables.
